CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's tennis team competed at the XS-Tennis Center for the first time this season as they hosted NAIA Roosevelt University in a Friday-morning bout. The Scarlet Hawks set the tone with a 1-0 lead after doubles, but couldn't find similar success in singles en route to a 4-3 loss to the Lakers.
The loss drops IIT to 2-6 overall while Roosevelt improves to 5-2.
Illinois Tech picked up victories in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courtesy of a Roman Shishlov/Alann Torres 6-2 win over Kerwin Chong/Nathan Benoit (No. 1), and Adam Laitinen/Brody Croonquist's 6-4 decision over David Wolk/Jacob Fuqua (No. 3).
The Lakers clinched the match in No. 1 singles, where Kerwin Chong defeated Roman Shishlov 6-2, 6-0 before Davis Housman closed the day with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Craig Greenwald in the No. 2 slot. Brody Croonquist also picked up a victory for IIT with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Jacob Fuqua in No. 6 singles.
The Scarlet Hawks will return to action on Saturday, March 7 when they face No. 4 University of Chicago at the XS-Tennis Center. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m.
