Scarlet Hawks Pick Up a 9-0 Victory Over Stars in 2020-21 Season Opener

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened their 2020-21 season with a Saturday-afternoon affair at Dominican (Ill.) in Forest Park, Illinois. The Scarlet Hawks improve to 2-0 all-time against the Stars with a 9-0 sweep in the 2020-21 season opener. 

The Scarlet Hawks begin the season 1-0, 1-0 NACC while Dominican (Ill.) falls to 0-1, 0-1 NACC.

The Scarlet Hawks converted 8-0 scores in two-of-three doubles matches. Alann Torres/Nabil Fawaz did the honors with a decision over Diego Martinez/Joshua Sapnu in the No. 1 slot, while Jordan Lauer/Brody Croonquist also accomplished that feat in No. 2 doubles with a win over Samuel Pardinas/Andre Duran. Jack Pio/Huy Ngo picked up an 8-3 win over Alexis Morales/Andre Rodriguez in No. 3 doubles.

Two singles matches resulted in 6-0. 6-0 scores for the Scarlet Hawks courtesy of Pablo Marroquin Borque in No. 3 singles over Samuel Pardinas, and Adam Laitinen in No. 4 singles over Andre Duran. 

Roman Shishlov registered a hard-fought 6-0, 6-1 victory over Diego Martinez in No. 1 singles, while Yousef Abdo took down Joshua Sapnu 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot. Brody Croonquist beat Alexis Morales 6-0, 6-3 in No. 5 singles, while Jack Pio took care of Andre Rodriguez 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.

The Scarlet Hawks will host Lakeland at the XS-Tennis Center on Wednesday, April 7 at 4:00 p.m.
