Seven Scarlet Hawks Earn Spot on 2021 All-NACC Men's Tennis Team

CHICAGO, ILL.—Seven members of the Illinois Institute of Technology men's tennis team landed a spot on the 2021 All-NACC Men's Tennis Team on Monday. Sophomore Alann Torres (All-NACC Singles & Doubles), freshman Pablo Marroquin Borque (All-NACC Singles), sophomore Roman Shishlov (All-NACC Singles), senior Adam Laitinen (All-NACC Singles), freshman Nabil Fawaz (All-NACC Doubles), senior Brody Croonquist (All-NACC Doubles), and freshman Jordan Lauer (All-NACC Doubles) make up the seven Scarlet Hawks to land 2021 All-NACC Honors. 

This marks the first All-NACC honor for all seven individuals.

Nabil Fawaz was named 2021 NACC Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year, while Erik Scanlan earned 2021 NACC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. Scanlan now has two NACC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year awards under his belt after he earned the distinction in 2019. 

2020-21 All-NACC Major Awards

Player of the Year: Logan Snyder (Concordia (Wis.))

Freshman of the Year: Nabil Fawaz (Illinois Tech)

Coach of the Year: Erik Scanlan (Illinois Tech)

Fawaz is the second Scarlet Hawk to land NACC Freshman of the Year after Franklin Zhong achieved the award in 2019. His achievement comes on the heels of a 5-0 singles record, and a 3-2 doubles mark seven matches into 2021. 

Torres, who landed April 28 NACC Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week, has a 4-1 singles record, and a 3-2 doubles mark in 2021. Marroquin Borque sports a 4-1 singles mark, and a 2-0 doubles record this season. Shishlov owns a 3-1 singles mark, and a 6-0 campaign in doubles with partner Adam Laitinen, who also notched a 6-0 mark in singles. Laitinen, the Scarlet Hawks career singles wins leader with a 30-31 record over four seasons, was named April 15 NACC Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week. 

Croonquist, the Scarlet Hawks career leader in doubles victories with a 42-23 record, carries a 6-0 doubles record in 2021 with partner Jordan Lauer

The Scarlet Hawks will face St. Scholastica in the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament First Round on Friday, May 14 at the University of Chicago. Match time is still to be determined.
