Adam Laitinen Lands Second NACC Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week Honor of 2021 Season

CHICAGO, ILL.—Illinois Institute of Technology men's tennis senior Adam Laitinen secured May 11 NACC Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week. This mark's Laitinen's second NACC weekly honor this season, as he also earned the distinction on April 15. 

Laitinen registered a 2-0 doubles and singles record in a week that included a 5-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College in the NACC Semifinal on May 6, and a 5-2 decision over Concordia (Wis.) in the NACC Tournament Championship on May 9. The Conneaut, Ohio native teamed with Roman Shishlov in doubles; where they tallied an 8-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran's Josh Hennen/Stu Woller, and an 8-5 decision over Concordia's (Wis.) Joshua Klement/Thomas Melius. 

Laitinen, who has an option to return for a fifth season, registered a 6-1, 6-0 win over Josh Hennen (WLC) and a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Thomas Melius (CUW) in No. 6 singles.

Laitinen owns a flawless 6-0 record in singles, and a 6-0 mark in doubles this season. His 30 career singles wins is a Scarlet Hawks program record, while his 27 doubles wins is tied for second in program history.

Illinois Tech will play St. Scholastica (Minn.) in the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament First Round at the University of Chicago on Friday, May 14 at 1:00 p.m.
