Season Ends in 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship Second Round

CHICAGO, ILL.—The 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship Second Round pitted Illinois Institute of Technology against Case Western Reserve University at the XS-Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The match was originally scheduled to be played at University of Chicago's Stagg Tennis Courts, but was moved indoors due to rain.

The Scarlet Hawks dropped a 5-0 decision to the Spartans, and concluded their fourth season as a varsity program with an 8-1 record. Case Western Reserve will take an 11-2 overall record into the third round tomorrow, May 16 against Gustavus Adolphus, who defeated Denison 5-4 in the earlier second-round match.

Case Western Reserve 5, Illinois Tech 0

The Spartans took a 3-0 lead in doubles via 8-0 scores in the No. 1 and No. 3 slots, and an 8-1 score in the No. 2 position. The 5-0 decision was clinched when Matthew Chen defeated Pablo Marroquin Borque 6-1, 6-0 in No 3 singles before Chaitanya Aduru defeated Nabil Fawaz 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot.

Yousef Abdo, Brody Croonquist, Adam Laitinen, and Jack Pio make up the 2021 Scarlet Hawks senior class. All four have an option to return for a fifth season due to the NCAA COVID-19 blanket waiver.
