Men's Tennis Downs Concordia Wisconsin - Clinches Conference Postseason Berth

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's tennis team took care of business Sunday at the XS Tennis Center, downing conference foe Concordia Wisconsin 8-1, and in the process clinching a berth in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference postseason tournament, with two matches remaining. The Scarlet Hawks currently sit in second place in the conference standing, with a record of 5-1 (6-12 overall). The Falcons dropped to 1-3 in NACC play, and 4-12 overall.

"It was high energy in doubles and we were hitting to the right spots and moving to our spots" said Head Coach Kris Powell. "Singles we were gritty and we had a great attitude all the way to the last point" said Powell.

In singles play, the Scarlet Hawks went 5-1, with Nabil Fawaz winning his #2 singles match 6-1, 6-0. Jordan Lauer took the #3 match 6-1, 7-6(7-5 tiebreaker). Danial Zindani (#4) and Huy Ngo (#5) each won in three sets in their matches, 1-6, 6-2, 10-6 and 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 respectively. Ulyses Bueno Canosa claimed the #6 match 6-2, 6-2. Alann Torres (#1) went to three sets in his match, ultimately falling 1-6, 7-5, 3-6. 

In doubles action, the Scarlet Hawks took all three matches. Torres and Lauer claimed the #1 doubles match 8-2. In the #2 match, Fawaz and Ngo won 8-5, and Zindani and Bueno Canosa won the #3 match 8-4.

The Scarlet Hawks will be idle from competition for several days, with their next match scheduled for Saturday, April 15th at 5:00 PM in a conference match at Wisconsin Lutheran.
