Scarlet Hawks Indoor Track & Field host NACC Championships, Jameson Wins Women’s Freshman of the Meet

Ripon, Wis. - On Friday and Saturday, the Scarlet Hawks men's and women's indoor track & field team were up in Ripon, Wis. at Ripon College where the Hawks were the host of the 2023 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. Continuing what they have done all season, the Hawks broke school records, personal records (PR), and placed on the all-time rankings list. 

Both sides finished in 7th place in the team rankings, with the women scoring 49 points, and the men scoring 22 points. 

Olivia Jameson earned the honors of NACC Freshman of the Meet after placing first in high jump, clearing 1.63 meter, placing 4th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.59, and 9th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.33.

Jameson's high jump win, along with Amelia Moseman's first place finish in the 400 meter dash marked Illinois Tech's first two women's champions at the NACC indoor meet.

Scarlet Hawk Women's Highlights

  • Jameson placed first in high jump, recording a height of 1.63, which is considered a NACC Championship record.

  • Moseman secured first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.25

  • The 4x400 meter relay team of Turner, Gabriella Baltes, Annika McKown, and Amelia Moseman placed third with a time of 4:11.74, breaking their own school record.

  • Zoe Turner placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.93

  • Moseman ran in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.14, ranking her 2nd all-time.

  • The distance medley relay team of Baltes, Rachel Brettin, Valerie Lending, and Sophia Halama raced a time of 13:53.20, ranking them 4th all-time. 

  • Baltes ran a PR in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.74, improving her all-time ranking in 5th. 

  • Halama ran in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:41.06, ranking her 9th all-time.

Scarlet Hawk Men's Highlights

  • Evan Balizado placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.46

  • The 4x400 meter relay team of Stewart Nelson, Zach Barisa, Balizado, and Noah Butzman placed third with a time of 3:31.40, which broke the school record.

  • Noah Butzman improved his school record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.57.

  • The distance medley relay team of Balizado, Louis Ketchman, Barisa, and Joseph Loriso raced a time of 10:52.92, ranking them 4th all-time

  • Nelson ran the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.81, ranking him 4th all-time

  • Alejandro Torres ran a PR in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:16.60, ranking him 5th all-time.

  • Nicholas Quigley ran a PR in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:19.78, ranking him 6th all-time.

  • Loriso ran a PR in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:13.86, improving his all-time ranking in 7th. 

  • Rishi Goyal raced a PR in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 11.03

"What a way to finish our indoor season as a team. The growth of our roster and our level of competitiveness in a strong conference is amazing to see. This is only the beginning!"

"Just....wow. This conference championship really put IIT XC/TF on the map. We knew what we had but I feel like this meet really showed the rest of the conference. We have been building and building and the conference got a small taste of what we have been building here at IIT. Huge shout out to the team for really bringing the energy this weekend and being the absolute best they could be. We have the best squad there is."

Assistant Coach Ed Harvey's Comments

"The team did well, very happy with how they handled the challenges of the indoor season leading up to this meet. I'm looking forward to [the] outdoor [season] and taking more steps forward."

On Saturday, some members of the women's indoor track & field team will be heading to Waverly, IA to take part in the 2023 Wartburg Qualifier. The meet will take place at Wartburg College at the Hoover Fieldhouse & Indoor Track.
