FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Illinois Institute of Technology men's volleyball team traveled to Marian University (Wis.) for a Friday evening match with the Sabres. Tech fell in four sets.

How it Happened

  • The Scarlet Hawks jumped out to one of their best starts of the season in set one, leading 4-0 and then 10-1 behind a balanced attack. Marian, however, went on an 11-2 run to tie the score at 12. Tech never fully took momentum back as the Sabres held on for the victory.
  • Illinois Tech never trailed in the second set, but the Sabres would make things interesting. After leading for most of the set, Tech let Marian creep back and tie the score late. Tech held off the Sabres for the 26-24 win.
  • Set three was close early, but Marian scored nine straight points to build a 20-12 lead. The Scarlet Hawks never fully recovered in the set.
  • Marian kept the momentum up in the fourth and final set, leading 5-1 early and never looking back. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Alex Babusci put together another solid match, leading the team in kills (10) and digs (six).
  • Ryan Barnes recorded 10 kills and led Tech with four block assists.
  • Kyle Bumpass tallied four kills and a team-high two aces.
  • Andrew Woltman recorded 26 assists.

Stats to Know

  • The Scarlet Hawks tallied 10 assisted blocks compared to eight total blocks (two solo, six assisted) for the Sabres.
  • Marian outhit Illinois Tech .337% to .228%.
  • Tech recorded 7 aces, while Marian recorded just two.
