Spartans Clip Scarlet Hawks 3-0

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's volleyball team faced Aurora University in a Thursday-night road tilt. The Spartans, who are in their fourth season as a program, received 10 votes on the February 23 AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Poll. Their win streak stretched to four with a 3-0 decision over the Scarlet Hawks.

Illinois Tech falls to 0-3, 0-3 NACC while Aurora ups their record to 4-2, 3-0 NACC.

Aurora 3, Scarlet Hawks 0

A trio of Aurora attack errors, one service error, and a Grant Couper kill gave the Scarlet Hawks their lone lead of set one at 5-4. The Spartans minimized their errors and finished the frame with a .316 hitting mark, while Illinois Tech mustered just five more kills for the remainder of the set as Aurora ran away with a 25-16 victory. 

The Scarlet Hawks would lead only twice more in the match, both 1-0 margins in sets two and three when the Spartans opened each frame with an attack error. The Spartans regained the lead for good on both occasions en route to a 25-20 victory in sets two and three, which secured them a 3-0 match victory.

Nine Scarlet Hawks contributed a kill in the match, led by Easton Kays' five. This engineered an Illinois Tech unit that notched a season-high .127 hitting percentage.

Lucas Guanes registered 19 assists for Illinois Tech, and tied for a team-leading two blocks with Jackson Van Engen. Jack Bovone tallied a team-high eight digs for the Scarlet Hawks, which helped his team notch a season-best 22. 

Timothy Breiter notched a game-high 12 kills for Aurora. 

The Scarlet Hawks will host Concordia Chicago at the Keating Sports Center on Tuesday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m.
