CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's volleyball team crossed state lines for the first time this season when they paid first-year program Wisconsin Lutheran College a visit in Milwaukee on Friday night. Grant Couper turned in a career night for the Scarlet Hawks with six service aces along with eight kills in a 3-0 victory over the Warriors.

The Scarlet Hawks improve to 2-4, 2-4 NACC while Wisconsin Lutheran exits Friday still in pursuit of their first program victory with an 0-6, 0-6 NACC mark.

Couper's six service aces against the Warriors put him in a tie for second place in the Scarlet Hawks' single-game record book. This engineered an Illinois Tech squad that registered 16 service aces in the contest, which ranks second in school history among three-set matches. Illinois Tech's .389 hitting percentage on the night ranks third in school history.

The Scarlet Hawks lone two attack errors in the opening frame occurred in the early stages of the set before Evan Robeck, who returned to the lineup for the first time since the season-opener at Benedictine (Ill.) on February 20, gave his team the lead for good with a kill to make things 6-5. Couper's four kills, along with Robeck's three engineered an Illinois Tech squad that hit .526 in a 25-11 win in set one.

The Scarlet Hawks also took the lead for good with the score tied 5-5 in set two, this time courtesy of a Jackson Van Engen kill en route to a 25-10 victory. Both teams combined for 19 errors in set three, where Van Engen and Andriy Bench each chipped in three kills to help Illinois Tech secure a 25-16 win.

Bench and Van Engen each tallied six kills for Illinois Tech. Robeck and Van Engen each chipped in a pair of blocks for the Scarlet Hawks. Lucas Guanes set up his Illinois Tech teammates with 24 assists in the match.

Illinois Tech will return to the Keating Sports Center on Tuesday, March 16 against first-year program Edgewood College at 7:00 p.m.
