Men's Volleyball Fall in Non-Conference Match

Chicago, Ill. - In another non-conference contest, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks men's volleyball team took on the host North Park University Vikings. The Hawks (3-6, 0-1 NACC) dropped three straight sets to the Vikings (6-3, 0-0 CCIW).

  • Set one started off close, with the two sides going point for point and staying even. The last tie in the set would be at 7-7 before the Vikings took three straight points. The Hawks would come one point shy of tying the set up multiple times but the Vikings were always able to stay ahead. To close out the set, the Vikings picked up four straight points to take set one 25018 over the Hawks. 

  • In very similar fashion to set one, the two sides would remain close to start off set two. The last tie would come at 8-8 after a Viking attacking error gave the point to the Hawks. The set would remain close, but ultimately went in favor of the Vikings 25-19.

  • Set three was different as the Vikings held the lead the whole time over the Hawks. The Hawks fought to stay within reach, but the lead proved to be too much. The Vikings took the set 25-15 to secure the match. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Jackson Van Engen led the Hawks with 11 kills and a .500 kills percentage. Van Engen picked up 2 digs and 1 block assist.

  • Michal Markevych tallied 7 kills, a .455 kills percentage, and 2 digs. 

  • Bryan Evans led the team in digs with 10. 

Vikings Standouts 

  • Emmanuel Eugene led the Vikings with 13 kills, 27 total attacks, and 9 digs. Eugene recorded a .407 kill percentage, 1 service ace, and 1 block assist.

  • Erik Bullard recorded  8 kills and 19 total attacks. Bullard finished with 1 service ace, 5 digs, and 1 block solo. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Vikings picked up 41 kills over the Hawks 33. 

  • 29 digs went in favor of the Hawks while 36 went in favor of the Vikings.

"We had moments with GREAT success but we couldn't gel as a team enough to compete throughout points. Hats off to a well fought match from North Park. Lots of great coverage to nullify our blocking and defensive effort to give their team opportunities to score."

The Hawks will now travel across the country to compete in the Cal Lutheran University Invitational Tournament in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The Hawks will take on UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at 5:00p.m. and Cal Lutheran at 8:00p.m.
