Impressive Second and Fourth Quarters Highlights Scarlet Hawks' Loss at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, WIS.—The final NACC contest of 2019 pitted the Illinois Institute of Technology women's basketball team on the road at Lakeland College on Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks had the upper hand in the second and fourth quarters, but a slow start was too much to overcome in a 60-44 loss to Lakeland.

IIT falls to 0-7, 0-5 NACC while the Muskies improve to 3-6, 3-2 NACC.

A 16-4 deficit at the 1:54 mark of the first quarter ignited a Scarlet Hawks unit led by Shannon O'Donnell, who tallied six points and one steal throughout IIT's 14-9 run that cut her team's margin to 25-18 with 2:14 left in the second frame. Selvamithra Ravichandran contributed five points throughout that run, which included a three-pointer that capped it at the 2:14 mark of the second.

The Scarlet Hawks, who trailed 31-19 at halftime, tallied a 4-11 (.364) field goal percentage in the second quarter while Lakeland mustered a 4-12  (.333) mark.

After digging themselves into a 47-30 hole after the third quarter, IIT duplicated their second-quarter performance in the fourth as they outscored Lakeland 14-13 and outshot them with a .429 (3-7) field goal percentage. The Muskies were held to a 3-19 (.158) shooting mark in the fourth, but their cushion was large enough to hold onto a 60-44 win.

Shannon O'Donnell notched her third double double of the season with 16 rebounds and 12 points, while Erin Efimoff tallied 13 points and seven boards. Abby Nylund paced Lakeland with 18 points.

The Scarlet Hawks will return home on Monday, December 16 against Andrews University at 1:00 p.m.
