Benedictine Defeats Women's Basketball in Road Contest

Lisle, Ill. - On Wednesday, while on the road, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's basketball team took on the Benedictine University Eagles. It was an even game to start before the Eagles (8-7, 8-14) took off with the lead from the Hawks (3-11, 6-15). Ultimately, the Hawks fell 77-40.

First Half (Benedictine 36 - Illinois Tech 22)

  • Chloe Rubinowicz began the game with the opening basket to get the Hawks on the board. With 8:08 on the clock in the first quarter, the Eagles tied the game for the first time at 4-4. The two sides then went back and forth, with the Hawks taking the lead until the game was once again tied, this time at 12-12 with 4:10 remaining. The Eagles closed out the quarter with a 9-2 run over the Hawks after nailing three 3-pointers. 

  • During the second quarter, the Hawks were held to six points while the Eagles controlled the game offensively. At halftime, the scoreboard read 36-22 in favor of the Eagles. 

Second Half (Benedictine 31 - Illinois Tech 18)

  • The third quarter action saw the Hawks held to six points again while the Eagles had their biggest quarter of the game, recording 25 points. At the end of the third quarter, the Eagles led 61-28.

  • In the fourth quarter, the Hawks were able to knock down some baskets, but the Eagles lead proved to be too much to come back from. At the final buzzer, the Hawks dropped the NACC contest 77-40.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Julia Bucci led the Hawks with 11 points, 4 steals, and tied for the lead in assist with 2. Bucci added 5 rebounds to her stats as well. 

  • Kaya Jones followed with 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists. 

  • Jessica Weaver added 6 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal. 

Eagle Standouts

  • Sierra Skack led the Eagles with 21 points. Skack finished with 1 rebound.

  • Jordan Carlquist followed with 12 points, 1 rebound, 1 block, and 1 steal.

  • Brianna Lake tallied 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Hawks finished 15-of-50 (30.0%) from the field, 4-of-14 (26.6%) behind the arc, and made 6-of-10 (60.0%) of their free throws. The Eagles finished 27-of-65 (41.5%), 13-of-28 (46.4%), and 10-of-14 (71.4%) respectively.

  • The Eagles outrebounded the Hawks 46-31. 

  • 21 of the Hawks points came off the bench.

On Saturday, the Hawks travel to Wauwatosa, Wis. to take on NACC competitor Wisconsin Lutheran College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:15p.m.
