Hawks Outpaced by Wartburg

Hawks Outpaced by Wartburg

Waverly, Iowa- the Illinois Tech Lacrosse team traveled to Waverly to take on Wartburg College. The Scarlet Hawks has been enjoying a 3 game win streak, playing some exciting lacrosse, and winning their two previous games against Loras and Benedictine in triple overtime thrillers. To say the least confidence was high going into the Wartburg match up.

The first half started with both teams exchanging quick goals within the first 5 minutes. The following 25 minutes of the half displayed an efficient offensive output for Wartburg while Tech offense stumbled; this led to 8-2 deficit for the Hawks at the end of the first.

Tech came out the second half showing a lot of tenacity on defense, knowing that to earn a victory they had to hold Wartburg to a low scoring half while the offense had to score some goals. Tech outscored Wartburg 3-2 in the half but unfortunately it wasn't enough to secure another Tech victory. Chelsea Badiola led the way for the Hawks with 2 goals while Nene Sanakou, Isabel Fitzpatrick Meyers, and Cassandra Reineke chipped in with a goal. Briana Villagrana made 6 saves in goal for the Hawks.

The Hawks fall to 5-9 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.
