Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Hendrix

Conway, AR. - In their first of two spring break games, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's lacrosse team traveled to Conway, AR. to take on the Hendrix College Warriors.

The Hawks (0-4) put up a tough fight, but couldn't make up the early deficit as the Warriors (3-2) secured a 16-12 non-conference victory.

First Quarter (Hendrix 6 - Illinois Tech 1)

  • After the Warriors got on the board first, Kelly HItchock followed 23 seconds later with the Hawks first goal and her first goal of the game. With 12:00 minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Hawks and Warriors were tied at 1-1. 

  • Five goals were scored by the Warriors through the remainder of the quarter, giving them a 6-1 lead. 

Second Quarter (Hendrix 3 - Illinois Tech 4)

  • The Hawks came out strong to begin the second quarter. In a free position attempt, Judai Smith scored a free position goal to give the Hawks their second of the game at the 13:13 mark. 

  • Hitchcock then scored back-to-back goals to pick-up a hat-trick and  to put the Hawks within two. The first came at 12:14 off a Faith Busche assist while the second was an unassisted goal at 10:55. 

  • The Warriors then scored three goals of their own between 10:24 and 3:39.

  • Hitchcock scored her fourth goal, third unassisted, with 1:49 remaining until halftime. 

Third Quarter (Hendrix 3 - Illinois Tech 6)

  • Coming back to the field, Busche joined in on the Hawks goal scoring with an unassisted goal at 13:56.

  • Hitchcock followed with an assisted goal by Lucy Jorjorian at 12:30. Here, the Hawks trailed the Warriors 9-7.

  • Between 10:53 and 1:54 the Hawks were unable to stop to offensive power of the Warriors as Hendrix scored 6 unanswered goals to take a 15-7 lead.

  • Scoring her sixth goal of the day, Hitchcock closed out the third quarter with an unassisted goal at 1:30. 

Fourth Quarter (Hendrix 1 - Illinois Tech 4)

  • In a man-up situations, the Warriors scored their lone goal of the quarter at the 14:20 mark. 

  • Unassisted, Busche scored her second of the game with 11:10 remaining. 

  • Alison Yurchak picked up a free position goal with 9:45 on the clock as the Hawks trailed 16-10.

  • Jorjorian then scored at 5:12 off a Hitchcock assist. 

  • Hitchcock closed out the game with the final goal from a free position shot with 3:29 remaining. As the final whistle blew, the Hawks fell to the Warriors 16-12.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Hitchcock found the back of the net 7 times to lead the Hawks in goals. Hitchcock finished with 10 shots, 8 of which were on goal and 1 assist. Hitchcock also led  the team in ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers with 5, 8, and 5 respectively. 

Warriors Standouts

  • Peyton Refling led the Warriors in goals with 5 after taking 10 shots with 9 being on frame. Refling finished with 2 assists, 2 ground balls, 7 draw controls, and 2 caused turnovers. 

  • Brenna Kuenzi, Lillian Sonner, and Alaina Palmer all recorded a hat-trick throughout the game. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Hendrix picked up 17 ground balls compared to Illinois Tech's 8.

  • The Hawks committed 20 turnovers versus the Warriors 14. 

  • In draw controls, the Warriors led 17-14 over the Hawks.

  • The Hawks finished with 26 shots while the Warriors had 39.
