RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Illinois Tech women's soccer team played its first game in a weekend back-to-back on Saturday afternoon, traveling to nearby Dominican University. A late goal pushed the Stars ahead for a 2-1 victory.
How it Happened
- It was a quiet first half on both sides. Just nine total shots (five for Dominican, four for Tech) and one Tech corner kick resulted in minimal goal-scoring threats. Both keepers went into halftime unscored upon.
- The Stars struck first in the second half behind a Tania Paez goal on a rebound off of her own header. The goal in the 54th minute put DU up 1-0.
- Just eight minutes later, Tech responded with its first goal of the season. Kirsten Robinson scored off of a Katie Hoefgen pass to tie things up at 1-1 in the 62nd minute.
- With just under seven minutes to play, Lexi Klotis scored off of assists from Paez and Sara Bartczyszyn to take the 2-1 lead for the final score.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- In addition to the goal, Robinson led the team with five shots and two shots on goal.
- Hofegen took the team's only other shot on goal and added the assist on Robinson's tally.
- Jessica Park made eight saves in the loss.
Stats to Know
- Dominican outshot the Hawks 19-9 and attempted nine corner kicks (all in the second half compared to Tech's two.
- Each team had two yellow cards.
