Women's Soccer Tames Concordia Chicago Cougars 6-1

Chicago, Ill. - Illinois Tech and Concordia Chicago traded goals early in their women's soccer matchup Wednesday night at Stuart Field, before the Scarlet Hawks turned up the heat to down the Cougars 6-1. The Hawks improved to 11-4-1 overall (7-3-0 NACC). The Cougars fell to 4-9-2 overall (4-5-2 NACC).

How It Happened

  • Laura Rios opened the scoring in the 10-minute mark when she took a drop pass from Kenzie Tokuchi and chipped it over the reach of Cougars goalkeeper Kassie Silenzi for her second goal of the season.
  • The Cougars responded eight minutes later when Itzel Calderon(6th) put in a header on a corner kick from Melica Kenworthy.
  • The Hawks regained the lead in the 26th minute when Elena Esparcia Cañada fed a cutting Julia Taliana in the box, and Taliana(5th) burried her shot into the right corner.
  • Two minutes later the Hawks extended their lead to 3-1 when Jayla Anaya crossed to Laura Rios in the box, and Rios banged home the offering for her second goal of the game and third of the season.
  • The score remained 3-1 midway through the 2nd half before the Hawks exploded for three goals in 2 1/2 minutes, started by a Cougars own goal from a Taliana cross attempt at 64:22. 
  • Tokuchi(2nd) boosted the Hawks lead to 5-1 less than two minutes later when she took a feed from Taliana, spun around her defender and fired into the left corner.
  • 40 seconds later the Hawks added a sixth goal to close out the scoring, when Anaya retrieved a cross from Laura Rios and punched it in for her seventh goal of the season.
