Women's Soccer Dominant in 7-0 Victory Over Lakeland

Sheboygan, Wisc. - Illinois Tech scored three goals in the first seven minutes en route to their 7-0 victory over host Lakeland University in their women's soccer conference matchup Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 12-5-1 overall (9-3-0 NACC). The Muskies fell to 2-14-0 overall (2-10-0 NACC).

How It Happened

  • Savanna Gonzalez opened the scoring at the 3:25 mark when she converted a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the season.
  • Two minutes later, Alexis Williamson knocked a Muskies clearing attempt of a corner kick into the left corner for her first of the season.
  • Less than a minute and a half later Lucy Vanveldhuisen blasted an 84-footer over the reach of Muskies goalkeeper Tracey Sery for her seventh goal of the season.
  • In the 18-minute mark, Caeli Kennedy converted a feed from Vanveldhuisen from the back line for her second goal of the season.
  • Laura Rios closed out the scoring for the Hawks in the first half in the 24th-minute when she took a long feed from Kennedy, raced down the right side and fired in her fourth goal of the season.
  • Julia Taliana extended the Scarlet Hawks lead to 6-0 in the 74th minute, taking a short cross from Lisa Rios in the middle of the box and scored her sixth goal of the season.
  • A little over one minute later, Genna Gaitan raced down the left side and chipped in her third goal of the season to close out the scoring for the game.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Vanveldhuisen and Kennedy each had a goal and an assist to pace the Hawks.
  • Taliana had a goal, her fourth goal in the last six contests.
  • Williamson had one goal and continued her strong defensive play, helping the Hawks to limit the Muskies to one shot.
