Scarlet Hawks Blank St. Norbert 1-0 in NAAC Tourney Opener - Advance to Semi-Finals vs Concordia Wisconsin

Chicago, Ill. - Julia Taliana scored in the 13-minute mark, and the Scarlet Hawks made the lead stand up as Illinois Tech downed St. Norbert 1-0 in the opening round of the NACC Women's Soccer tournament Sunday afternoon at Stuart Field. The Scarlet Hawks advance to the semi-finals to take on top-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin Wednesday in Mequon, Wisconsin. The Hawks improved their overall record to 14-5-1. The Green Knights finished the season 10-9-1 overall.

How It Happened

  • The two teams traded more fouls (5) than shots (3) in the first 10 minutes of play.
  • At the 13:25 mark, Lucy Jorjorian lofted a feed into the box that Taliana bodied to the turf, outraced her defender and tucked the ball past Green Knights goalkeeper Lilly Collins with a quick left-footer to put the Hawks up 1-0.
  • In the 61st minute, Hailey Flannagan dove to her left to make a save on a chip shot from the Green Knights Emily Names.
  • Nine minutes later Mallory Names of St. Norbert slipped through two defenders down the middle and fired on the Hawks net, but Flannagan advanced and dropped to her right to prevent the Green Knights best opportunity of the game.
  • The Hawks closed out the victory, but not before losing some key contributors to injury at different points in the second half.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Taliana had two shots on goal and tallied her seventh goal of the season, giving her points in five of her last seven matches played.
  • Laura Rios had two shots with one shot on goal.
  • Alexis WilliamsonHali Parker and Jillian Oligschlaeger led a Scarlet Hawks backline that limited the Green Knights offensive attack.
  • Flannagan earned her ninth win of the season and second complete game shutout.
