Scarlet Hawks Swimming Finds Day Two Success at Liberal Arts Championship

Elsah, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's & women's swim teams put forth a solid performance during the second day of the Liberal Arts Championships.

On the men's side, the evening kicked off with a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The squad of junior Sam Kastan, fifth-year Matthew Randle, first-year David Halmy, and senior Mitchell Lucky finished in a time of 1:25.51.

Individual conference champions on the evening included junior Mark Klinchin in the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.68) and Kastan in the 50-yard freestyle (21.42).

Other notable swims throughout the evening included a fourth place finish from first-year Cole Kincart in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.97), a second place finish by Randle in the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.31), and a fourth place finish from Lucky in the 50-yard freestyle (22.04).

On the women's side, the evening began with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team consisted of junior Jamie Dean, first-year Stephanie Ticen, sophomore Emma Dutkiewicz, and first-year Maria Plencner.

Notable swims on the evening included a 1-2 finish in the 200 IM from junior Anna Slominski (2:07.20) and senior Megan Burrill (2:10.21) and a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle from first-year Kristen Hampton (5:22.01).

The evening wrapped up with a second place finish in the 400-yard medley relay consisting of Dutkiewicz, Burrill, Slominski, and Hampton.

Both teams are back in action on Friday for the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and the 200-yard medley relay.

Day three resumes at the Natatorium at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois on Friday, February 11th.
