Women's Tennis Drops Another Close Match - Falls to MSOE 5-4

Chicago, Ill. – It was another close battle that came up short for the Illinois Tech women's tennis team Saturday morning at the XS Tennis Center, as the Scarlet Hawks dropped another 5-4 match, falling to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a NACC matchup. The Hawks dropped to 2-4 in NACC play, and 2-6 overall. The Raiders improved to 5-1 in the conference, and 5-5 overall.

The Scarlet Hawks have three matches remaining in conference play, with the next two matches on the road in Wisconsin, and the final match at home at XS Tennis on October 16.

Singles Play (Illinois Tech 3 – MSOE 3)

  • Natalie Hamill won the number one singles match 6-2, 6-0 over the Raiders' Michaela Haensgen, for her third singles match victory in a row.
  • Saumya Sukhthankar won her number two singles match against MSOE's Hope Triplett, 6-1, 6-0, also her third singles match victory in a row.
  • Akeyla Harper won her third singles match of the season, defeating Avila Berns 6-2, 6-2 in the number six singles match.
  • MSOE won the number three, four and five singles matches.

Doubles Play (MSOE 2 – Illinois Tech 1)

  • The number one doubles tandem of Hamill and Sukhthankar defeated MSOE's pairing of Karley Wray and Michaela Haensgen 8-6. It was the third consecutive doubles match victory for the Scarlet Hawks number one pair.
  • MSOE won the number two and three doubles matches 8-4 and 8-5, respectively.

Next Up

The Scarlet Hawks have a quick turnaround, as they travel to De Pere, Wisconsin on Sunday, October 2nd to face the St. Norbert Knights at 3:00 p.m. in a NACC matchup.
