Volleyball drops matches to IW and Franklin College

Terre Haute, Ind. - The Illinois Tech Volleyball team traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana Saturday for the second time this season to play Illinois Wesleyan and Franklin College. The Hawks lost both matches in three sets dropping their record to 12-7.

Illinois Wesleyan 3, Tech 0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-15)

Tech had a tough time in their first match up against IW who started each set with a huge point run that left Tech battling to bridge the gap the entire match. Tech's serve receive struggled making it difficult to find answers on offense. Senior Shea Manley was the only Hawk hitter in the positives for the match hitting .300 with 4 kills. 

Franklin 3, Tech 0 (25-20, 22-20, 25-21)

Tech found a better matchup against Franklin College.  They started the match 5-0 with two service aces by Adriane Walther.  Franklin battled back responded with a 7 point serving run of their own that put the score at 14-11. Tech was able to get within two at 18-20 but Franklin was able to close after a couple big kills 25-20.  Franklin started the second set with a 7 point run that Tech had to again battle their way back from.  They were again able to get within two at 18-20 but struggled defensively dropping the second set.  Tech came out strong in the third set which was a point battle with multiple lead exchanges bringing the score to 19-19 before Franklin's Emily Young went on a spree with 4 kills ending the match 25-21. Shea Manely led Tech in kills with 11 and a .556 hitting percentage.  Adriane Walther followed with 6 kills and a .267 hitting percentage. Libero, Chelsea Badiola lead defense with 12 digs.

Volleyball's next match will be Tuesday when they host Mount Mary at Keating Athletic Center. This is the annual Volley For the Cure game to raise awareness of Breast Cancer. Please come to the came wearing your Paint IIT Pink T-shirts and anything pink to show support for those who have suffered.
