CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team played host to day one of the Scarlet Hawk Invite in the Keating Sports Center on Friday. The Scarlet Hawks lost in four sets to both Olivet College and Principia College.

How it Happened - Olivet
- The Scarlet Hawks started the day strong, building a 6-0 lead in the first set and riding the momentum to a 25-23 victory. Olivet would tie things up late, but tech never trailed in the set.
- In the second set, Olivet imposed its will on the Scarlet Hawks, winning 25-12.
- The third set was back and forth in the early going. At 14-14, Olivet went on a 10-0 to propel the team to a 25-16 win.
- The fourth and final set was tightly contested. The Scarlet Hawks started off down 8-2, but fought hard to tie things at 13-13. After trading points for a bit, Tech would seize control with a 4-0 run to take a 21-19 lead. However, Olivet closed the match on a 6-2 run to clinch the victory.
How it Happened - Principia
- The first one was an impressive one for Illinois Tech. Things were tight early on until a 6-2 Tech run gave the Hawks a 12-8 advantage. Tech never relinquished the lead and went on to win 25-19.
- Principia never trailed in the second set, starting off with a 3-0 lead and never looking back. Tech dropped the set 25-17.
- In set three, Principia went on a 12-0 run after the set was tied at 10-10. Irena Grauzinis tallied two kills late, but Principia took the set 25-14.
- Despite trailing big early in the fourth set, the Scarlet Hawks went on a late rally. A 7-2 run brought Tech to within two at 23-21 after trailing by as many as eight. Principia, however, would hold off the Hawks to win 25-22.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Grauzinis led the Hawks in the kills department in both matches, tallying 29 on the day. She also added 23 digs and three aces.
- Katherine McCutcheon added 11 kills on the day and hit an impressive .556% in the Olivet match.
- Taylor Burton totaled 13 kills and a team-high seven blocks on the day.
- Alyssa Miner tallied 14 kills and four aces.
- Courtney Darling tallied 65 assists and 22 digs.
- Reya Green led the team with 29 digs.
Stats to Know
- Olivet outhit the Scarlet Hawks .225% to .067%.
- The Scarlet Hawks tallied 45 digs compared to Olivet's 44.
- Tech recorded nine aces compared to Principia's eight.
- Principia won the battle of the blocks against Tech 12-10.
